To Vlog Or Not To Vlog

To Vlog Or Not To Vlog

Bonjour! It’s good to be back so soon after my last post. I’m really making an effort to be consistent here on the blog and to remember I have this platform as well as Instagram and Facebook. Although I will say, in recent years I feel as if blogging has been left behind somewhat with more and more people using platforms for reels and stories. Maybe it’s a younger generation thing (I’m a gen xer) where they prefer being on camera instead of writing. I on the other hand prefer the written word and have done for years. I have had other blogs and on one I was very consistent and then my focus changed and I decided to simply put it to sleep. I do write another more recent blog about my baking, painting and gardening adventures which you can find here, however, I haven’t written anything for quite a while, a very long while now but I really must get back to it as there’s so much going on in the garden this year now I seem to have conquered the environment here in Perth.

Anyhoo, I’m digressing as always….I’m sure you must be getting used to that by now. I blame my grandma lol, she was a great one for digressing and getting off track so I think it’s in the DNA.

The reason I’m popping in tonight is I need your help, if you so choose to help that is and if not it will just have to be a painful decision I make on my own. I have been toying with the idea of vlogging for years and what holds me back is simply being camera shy and not wanting to deal with trolls. At least here on the blog I’m in control and no nasty comments can get through unless I approve them and I’m hardly going to do that. However, something like vlogging more on Instagram or starting a YouTube channel is a little more scary to me and although I know I can report people etc I really just want to keep my life positive and not deal with people who get enjoyment out of being nasty just for the hell of it. I’m probably overthinking and worrying for nothing but it’s something that concerns me.

Now, your help comes in by way of letting me know if you’d like to see a Vlog post instead of a blog post or something on YouTube. The reason I’m wanting to do this is to share my knowledge with those who would like to start revamping their own pieces of furniture. And while I love explaining here how to do something I know most people (like myself) learn better by watching and doing while following along. I also know that when I write I tend to forget steps, even very small steps because it’s so automatic for me to know what I’m doing and skip ahead. However, I always proof read my posts and add those missed steps in once I pick up where I’ve left them out.

I have been doing more reels on Instagram this last week to try and get myself used to being in front of the camera and if you head to my ig page you can see them there. They are reels, so they are sped up and the camera is in close on the work I’m doing so you can see what I’m doing though my head does get in a few shots. I’m learning in a very small space.

As I said I’d like to do a Vlog or YouTube channel to help those who think they could never revamp a piece of furniture because in reality we can all do it, it’s just a case of starting and practicing. Once you start you’ll be addicted and want to paint everything but I do understand how it can feel daunting to get started so I want to help remove that fear of messing something up because it’s just paint. If you’re not happy with how it’s going, start again, it’s never permanent and can always be changed.

So if you’d like to see a Vlog post or a YouTube channel, please let me know in the comments below and I’ll see what I can put together. And as always thanks for your support and stay tuned to see what I decide to do and to see the latest piece I’m working on head over to Instagram and have a peek. Take care for now and I’ll be back soon.

À bientôt….Michelle x
