My Top Three Favourite Revamps

My Top Three Favourite Revamps

Bonjour! Welcome back. I hope you’ve been keeping well and finding time to get those projects around the house or garden accomplished. Life gets busy doesn’t it and before you know it it’s been three weeks since you said you were going to put those plants in the ground. Yes hubby, I will get round to it lol….

Anyhow, today I thought I’d share with you what I consider my top 3 pieced I’ve revamped to date. Now quite often I’ll finish a new piece and adore it and think it’s my absolute best work and it probably is but then I think that after every piece. But even though our skills improve and our end results continue to become better and better there are always thos extra special pieces that steal your heart. I hate parting with those pieces but if I kept them all I’d need a decent sized mansion to live in. So when someone buys one of my pieces who sees exactly what I see in it, then that makes me happy and confident to part with it because I know it’s going to be loved as much as I love it.

It’s actually been quite difficult to narrow it down to three pieces as I love every piece I do but if I shared them all this would be an extremely long post, so three pieces it is. All pieces have been painted in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint and I’ll share the colours as we go.

First of all we have my all time, absolute faovurite piece to date that if I could do it over again I absolutely wouldn’t hesitate. This piece was gifte to me by my sister in-law and while it was lovely in it’s natural state I could see exactly ehat I would do to it the minute I laid eyes on it. Yes, it was one of those pieces that spoke to me loud and clear…..ta da….

A Beautiful balinese style dresser in it’s original condition..
Revamped Revived & Reloved

I painted this dresser in Anthenian Black Chalk Paint and all the gold work was done using gold leaf and everything was sealed with clear wax. I will admit this piece was a labour of love and I spent many hours working on it. While the painting side of things was a breeze the gold leafing was definitely time consuming but so worth the effort to have the end result. And believe it or not this was the first piece I ever did any gold leafing on, so you can see why I was so happy with the end result. The lady who bought it absolutely loved it and said it gave her major Versace vibes as all her bedding was Versace in black and gold, so for her it fitted in perfectly.

Next we have my second all time favourite piece which I had originally intended to keep for myself but ultimately I ran out of space in my studio for it so I thought I’d find a new home for it where it would be loved.

I adored this 60’s secretary desk
French inspiration was behind this piece

This beauty has been painted in Louis Blue which has fast become one of my favourite blues to work with. In the beginning though she was nasty with all kinds of orange stain and needed a major clean plus a few repairs to the hinges inside but overall she was an easy piece to work with and revamp. The furniture decal is Le Roses by ReDesign with Prima which I absolutely adore, hence why it was so hard for me to decide to part with it. Surprisingly (to me at least) it was a young lady in her early twenties that fell in love with the piece and said she’d never seen a secretary desk before but she loved it the miute she saw it. It’s comments like these from clients that make my heart sing and this is why I do what I do.

And last but not least we have my third all time favourite piece that I finished quite recently. Once again this piece was gifted to me by a friend from her parents place as they were downsizing. This is another one of those pieces that spoke to me and I knew exactly what I would do to it despite some doubters not quite seeing my vision until it was finished.

A very worn out vintage buffet
Brought back to life with lots of gold leafing

It didn’t take long to get the inspiration for this piece from the minute I saw it. In fact the most difficult decision was whether or not leave the mirror or take it off. As you can see I opted to remove the mirror to make it a little more modern. Don’t worry I have kept the mirror as it’s a beautiful piece and I’m sure I’ll find a use for it in time.

This piece I’ve painted in Olive which is one of my favourite green colours and I decided to leave the top raw as that wood is too beautiful to cover up. The top has scalloping which was a nightmare to try and sand so I decided to simply paint over the brown scalloping with Olive Chalk Paint so the whole piece would tie together. The legs on the buffet have such beautiful detail that I wanted to bring it out so it could be appreciated. If you look at the before pic you can’t really make out the exact detail but with the gold leafing all the details stand out. So I decded to go for it and add lots of gold leaf which helps showcase the details of the legs, the colour of the raw wood top and it pairs beautifully with the Olive colour. Everything was sealed in clear wax (including the raw wood top) and then I went back in and aged the legs, cross beams, sides and doors with dark wax. I was really happy with how this piece turned out and I’ve enjoyed her taking up room in my studio lol…..she’s listed for sale and looking for her forever home now and I don’t think it’ll be long before she’d found.

So there you have it, these are my top three favourite revamps. It really was hard to narrow then down but I’ll share more pieces as we go along. I’d love to know which one is your favourite, feel free to tell me in the comments below.

Well, that’s it from me today, I really hope you’re enjoying your time here as much as I am and I look forward to seeing you at my next post. Take care for now and stay tuned.

À bientôt.... Michelle x
