Bonjour et bienvenue
My name is Michelle, I’m a furniture artists who loves giving old pieces new life with a coat of chalk paint and some artistic flare. I have been restoring or as I like to call it, revamping furntiure on and off for the last 20 years in between raising a family, growing an organic garden and moving house, a lot!
My favourite paint of all time to work with is Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I love the rich and soft colours, the blendability, the fact it’s designed to be mixed and create custom colours and most of all I love the fact there’s little to no prep work on a piece before you can start painting. I don’t know about you but the less prep time the better as it means more painting and creating time.
I found Annie Sloan Chalk Paint 13 years ago and what attracted me to it was all the reasons I mentioned above. And while I have tried other brands of chalk paint I always went back to Annie’s as it simply a superior product and does everything I need it to do. So these days I work exclusively with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint as I know the paint will perform as I need it to every single time.
The furniture I rescue is mostly vintage and unloved pieces that people no longer want any more and would otherwise end up in landfill. As an organic gardener and chemical free user in my home, cooking and skin care, I’ve learnt the importance of the low and no waste concept to lower my carbon footprint and keep as much from my home out of landfill as possible. Hence the reason I rescue furniture and give it a new look which in turn gives it a new lease on life as a beloved piece once again in a new home.
My love of wood and furniture comes from my Grandfather and my Dad who were both carpenters and could build just about anything they set their minds to. Growing up I loved going into their sheds and smelling the mix of timber, oil, sawdust and I guess you would call it manly sweat lol…..there was something about being in their sheds (especially my grandfathers) that had a sense of wonder as if anything could be whipped up at a moments notice. And with my Grandmother behind my Grandfather there quite often were small projects asked to be done at a moments notice.
There is something about taking a few pieces of timber and turning them into something new that will always fascinate me. And so I guess it’s no wonder that my love of sheds and timber has led me down the path of loving old furniture and reviving it to be loved once again.
I hope you will enjoy your time here at Revamped Revived Reloved and find some inspiration as I share projects I’m working on and my process of how I come about deciding on colours and design for each individual piece. You are always welcome to leave me a comment or ask a question if you’d like to know something and I look forward to getting to know you all as I create my way through the year. Take care for now and I’ll write soon.
À bientôt….Michelle x
